Xenia took a risk in January. Instead of staying in Hackney Museum from 10am – 1pm as we normally do, we finished the workshops at 12 to go to the Women’s March on London, joining peacefully with hundreds of thousands of women, men and children across the world to say no to sexism, racism, Islamophobia and bigotry.
In the morning, participants learned about the long history and present of peaceful women’s movements including the Liberian Women for Peace, the Muslim and Jewish Israeli women’s March for Hope, and Reclaim the Night. We thought about how we can communicate, and worked on a banner together which you can see above.
The march was peaceful, and filled with hope. It also reinvigorated why we are doing what we are doing – marching with women from Eritrea, Iraq and Turkey made us see how far we have come and how much further we need to march together.
